A goal after 15 minutes by Raul was enough to guide Schalke to the final of the DFB-Pokal Cup where they will meet Duisburg following a narrow win at Bayern Munich.

Former Spain striker Raul headed home two minutes after his half-volley was cleared off the line by Mario Gomez and, although Bayern piled on the pressure in the second half they could not find the equaliser, Franck Ribery shooting straight at Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with three minutes left.

In an open game, Raul almost opened the scoring when his left-footed half-volley was headed for the bottom corner only for Gomez to intervene.

However, the visitors took the lead when Jefferson Farfan’s corner was headed towards goal by Benedikt Hoewedes, with Raul getting the final touch to head into the top left-hand corner.

Arjen Robben shot into the side netting for Bayern but Schalke were on top. Raul released Farfan but after he turned inside, his shot was weak.

Hoewedes’ header was destined for the right corner but Thomas Mueller cleared off the line as Schalke finished the first half in command.

However, it was all Bayern after the break.

Danijel Pranjic’s low left-footed ball across the six-yard box just evaded Gomez and Robben, before Neuer was equal to Bastian Schweinsteiger’s header, pulling off a fine one-handed save.

Farfan nipped in but put the ball over before Bayern had a late chance to equalise. Klose squared the ball to Ribery who shot from eight yards out, but put the ball straight into the hands of Neuer.

(CNN) — Borussia Dortmund moved a big step closer to a first German Bundesliga title in nine years on Saturday with a historic 3-1 victory over defending champions Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Jurgen Klopp’s team moved 13 points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who visit Werder Bremen on Sunday, and 16 ahead of Bayern — who lost at home to Dortmund for the first time in 20 years.
Louis van Gaal’s team dropped to fourth after the home defeat, occupying Germany’s final Champions League position for next season with 10 rounds to play.
Paraguay striker Lucas Barrios opened the scoring in the ninth minute with his 11th goal of the season after Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger lost posesssion to Kevin Grosskreutz, who threaded a perfect pass into the penalty area.
Welcome win for struggling Wolfsburg
Brazilian defender Luis Gustavo equalized seven minutes later with his first goal for Bayern since arriving from Hoffenheim in January, sidefooting in a volley from Franck Ribery’s corner.
Dortmund immediately went back in front through a wonderful effort from Turkey midfielder Nuri Sahin, who curled a 20-yard left-foot shot past goalkeeper Thomas Kraft.
Bundesliga top scorer Mario Gomez thought he had leveled again in the 20th minute, but the striker was ruled to be offside.
Former Bayern defender Mats Hummels sealed the Westphalian team’s victory with a header from Mario Gotze’s corner on the hour mark.
With 15 minutes left, Dortmund’s 22-year-old Australian keeper Mitchell Langerak capped a solid Bundesliga debut when he denied Germany international Gomez from close range.
Hanover claimed third place after central defender Christian Schulz’s last-gasp header was enough to see off St. Pauli.
The 27-year-old converted from Portuguese winger Sergio Pinto’s 87th-minute corner to put Mirko Slomka’s team two points ahead of Bayern.

Inter 0-1 Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich snatched a deserved 1-0 win late on at San Siro, as Champions League holders Inter were finally caught out in a hugely absorbing last 16 first-leg clash.

Mario Gomez’s 90th-minute close range effort from a right wing cross was enough to hand the Germans the victory after they’d dominated for long spells but made few chances.
Inter were the first to show their attacking intentions as Samuel Eto’o ran at the heart of the Bayern defence to win a first-minute free-kick, from which Andrea Ranocchia volleyed wide when unmarked, though the flag was up in any case.

It was Bayern, though, who maintained the longer spells of possession in the opening stages of the first half as Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribery and Thomas Mueller dictated the rhythm of the game. And when Luiz Gustavo unleashed a left-foot drive from one such spell in the 20th minute, Julio Cesar was left scrambling across as the ball flew narrowly wide.

Moments later Inter broke, but after Eto’o fed a lovely ball into the six-yard area, Esteban Cambiasso’s toe-poked shot was blocked by Thomas Kraft. The keeper then made another good save from Eto’o as the Nerazzurri continued to look dangerous.

After their slow start to the first half, Bayern were the first to cause trouble after the break as Robben got down the right and crossed for Mueller, who was unable to get enough on the ball to guide it inside the far post. Ranocchia’s poor pass across the back line gifted Gomez possession soon after, but the centre-back was able to recover and made a fantastic challenge to retrieve the ball.

Again Inter were able to force openings though, and they should have gone ahead when Wesley Sneijder caused trouble for Schweinsteiger with a low crossfield ball, from which Eto’o had a shot parried by Kraft into the path of Cambiasso, who inexplicably fired over the bar.

Bayern came closest to opening the scoring when Robben got on the outside of Cristian Chivu, but fired his shot off Julio Cesar’s near post.

With nerves evident from both sides near the end, Sneijder’s free-kick was deflected over, and from the corner Thiago Motta’s header was well kept out by the excellent Kraft.

But it was Mario Gomez who stole the win for the away side when swooping on a right-wing cross from close range in the final minute of normal time.

The result means Bayern will now be considered huge favourites to progress to the quarter-finals, with Inter needing to score at least twice in the second leg at the Allianz Arena on March 15.
